Cristiano Ronaldo's penalty technique was revered at Real Madrid, yet since his departure Sergio Ramos has stepped into the role with consummate ease, and his own style is worth analysis on its own.
Having scored several key goals from 12 yards in the title run-in to this point, the former Sevilla defender has a very unique style of taking a penalty, which doesn't include studying how an opposing goalkeeper usually moves.
Twenty successful penalties have catapulted Ramos into the category of specialist from the spot, and MARCA wanted to learn more about the secrets behind what has proven to be such an efficient way of taking penalties.
Ronaldo missed 13 of the 92 spot kicks he took for Los Blancos, whilst Ramos has missed just one of 21 penalties, which equates to a staggering 95 percent success rate.
Furthermore, his miss actually came 26 months ago, so it seems as though the captain has found a consistent way of avoiding missing.
He doesn't care what a goalkeeper does, he has such supreme confidence in his ability that he doesn't believe what a goalkeeper can influence matters in the slightest.
In his run up he waits until the goalkeeper makes a move, and then simply slots the ball into a clearer section of the goal, it sounds simple but it takes a great deal of sporting bravery.
Just the slightest twitch from the goalkeeper gives Ramos enough to know where to put the ball in order to score a goal.
Ramos stands on the edge of the penalty area before starting a run up where he doesn't look at the ball, only the goalkeeper.
Because of this technique, Ramos doesn't actually favour a specific side of the net.
Thus, goalkeepers can't even rely on their own analysis department to make an educated guess on where the penalty will go.
Ramos can put the ball anywhere in the goal and he can make a decision on it almost up to the second before he comes into contact with the ball.
"I thought he was going to hit a Panenka," David Soria explained.
With the control the Spanish captain has, goalkeepers have to wait an age before they can make a decision and this puts even more pressure on them.

Even I admire Ramos way of kicking penalties. They guy literally get to know where the keeper is going before kicking the ball. That’s just genius and hard. Other players decide where to kick the ball before they start to run to it but Ramos focuses on the goalkeeper instead and decides where to put it based on the keeper’s stance and positioning. Absolutely genius💯💯💯
