Ancelotti: We don't need to test Alisson, he will be called up for the Copa América

Brazil will play friendlies against Japan and Singapore in Singapore, but Alisson was not called up, sparing him a 13,660-mile round trip from Merseyside. Despite leaving the goalkeeper out again, Ancelotti insists Alisson remains his first-choice goalkeeper and explained why he was omitted.

"We don't need to test Alisson, we know him very well," Ancelotti said. "He is the best goalkeeper."

"When the Copa América comes, he will be called up, and so will the other experienced players."

"For now, it's time to observe, renew the squad, and help young players reach their full potential."

Alisson has 83 international caps and was a starter for Brazil at the 2026 World Cup, where Brazil lost unexpectedly to Norway in the round of 16.

Since Ancelotti took over in May 2025, the 34-year-old has been Brazil's first choice when fit, as he has been for most of his international career.

However, he was one of several high-profile players absent from the Brazil squad for the friendlies against Australia and India in late September and early October.

Marquinhos, Gabriel, Douglas, Guimaraes, Andrey Santos, Vinicius, Raphinha, Endrick, and Rayan were the only players from Ancelotti's 26-man World Cup squad to be included, and the former Everton manager called up nine uncapped players for that training camp.

He also called up 10 players who play in Brazil and completely revamped the goalkeeping position. Hugo Sousa, Pedro Morisco, and Octavio, who had just one cap between them at the time, were called up to replace Alisson, Ederson, and Weverton.

Ancelotti has now called up two new goalkeepers, with Bento and David Lucas joining Pedro Morisco in his latest squad.

Meanwhile, Gabriel, Douglas, Guimaraes, Andrey Santos, Vinicius, Raphinha, Endrick, and Rayan are again the only players remaining from Brazil's 26-man World Cup squad, with Marquinhos also dropped. This time Ancelotti has called up six uncapped players and six players who play in Brazil.

Alisson's continued absence from international duty is a boost for Liverpool, given the Brazilian's numerous muscle injuries in recent years.

He has been a mainstay in the Premier League and Champions League so far this season, with 11 appearances, and will get a two-week rest next month to prepare for Liverpool's return to club action against Man United.
