Ancelotti urges Madrid to make Modric decision

Carlo Ancelotti has put the pressure on Real Madrid to make a decision on Luka Modric's future.

Modric is out of contract at the end of the season, and so far no call has been made on whether or not his deal will be renewed.

The 39-year-old has played for Madrid since 2012, and has featured in 393 LaLiga matches, contributing to 93 goals.

And Ancelotti, who will be leaving Madrid after next week's season finale against Real Sociedad, says it is time for Los Blancos to make their decision.

"Everyone knows how much Madrid wants Modric," he told reporters after Sunday's 2-0 win over Sevilla, in which Modric assisted Kylian Mbappe's opener.

"They'll have time to make the best decision. For the club. For him. For the future."

Modric showed his class against Sevilla. Captaining a young side – Madrid's fifth-youngest starting XI in a LaLiga game under Ancelotti – the Croatian crafted six chances, had 112 touches and completed 93 of his 102 passes.

According to reports in Spain on Monday, Xabi Alonso, who is expected to take charge at Madrid, wants Modric to extend his stay at the Santiago Bernabeu.

At the opposite end of the age spectrum to Modric, Jacobo Ramon has impressed in his first three LaLiga appearances.

And Ancelotti feels the full-back has a bright future.

"The fact that they had the advantage meant those behind them didn't work much. He's a player on the same level as Raul [Asencio]," Ancelotti said.

"He had a fairly long injury, but he's been doing well since January. He has everything to be a Real Madrid player.

"He's a bit shy, and that's why we believe he hasn't shown all his qualities. The tall, powerful player has a good ball-playing ability. He needs time, but he could be in the Real Madrid squad in the future."
