Andre Gomes has returned to the Everton squad for the first time since his horror ankle break against Tottenham in November.

The midfielder has been named on the bench for Carlo Ancelotti's side against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. Gomes has said he targeted this match back in January for his return date, and he pulled through just four months after his injury.

The 26-year-old returned to training back in January to the shock of many due to the severity of the ankle break.

Gomes had to receive oxygen on the pitch after a collision with Tottenham attacker Hueng-Min Son.

Son, who was red carded for the challenge, was visibly upset as he left the field with Gomes screaming in pain.

However, Everton boss Ancelotti was always positive that his midifelder would make a speedy recovery despite the horrific nature of the break.

Gomes will need more time to build match fitness as he has returned to the bench for the Toffees at the Emirates.

Fabian Delph and Morgan Schneiderlin were chosen to play in central midfield, where Gomes prefers to operate on the pitch.

Ancelotti said that he is ready to play if needed, as Everton posted to their Twitter account: 'Another week does not matter – maybe he can be involved today (vs Arsenal). He is in good condition, the most important thing is he is ready.'
