Andre Onana makes promise to Man United fans after heroic last-minute penalty save against Copenhagen

Andre Onana has made a promise to Manchester United fans following his heroic goalkeeping display against Copenhagen.

After Harry Maguire's powerful second-half header, the Cameroon international was United's saviour when Scott McTominay made contact with Mohamed Elyounoussi in the penalty area.

Onana guessed the right way and saved a 97th minute penalty by Jordan Larsson, who is the son of former Barcelona striker Henrik Larsson, to help the Red Devils win 1-0 on the night.

Onana told TNT Sports: 'Of course [there's resilience]. We are Manchester United, we're a very big club with big players.

'So it's just a matter of time, now we have to continue like this and we'll get through this.

'I just had to do my job, you know,' added Onana. 'I had to do it for us to win, to win against a very tough opponent, we had a great game.

'Great goal from the big man, Harry, and I'm very happy, we have to continue like that.'

Prior to last night, Onana had kept just three clean sheets in 12 appearances.

United's win means they now sit third in their group ahead of Copenhagen but behind Galatasaray and Bayern Munich.

Maguire told reporters that his redemption was 'meant to be' as Old Trafford paid tribute to the late Sir Bobby Charlton.

‘It was meant to be,’ he said. ‘We were meant to win the game. A magnificent save and a win dedicated to Sir Bobby and his family.

‘It’s been a tough week for us, losing someone like Sir Bobby. It affects the club and the dressing-room. But we’re really pleased we could get the win.’
