Andros Townsend fears racism has crept back into football and has applauded the bravery of Danny Rose in speaking out.

Rose said last week that he was looking forward to quitting football after being targeted by opposition fans during England's win in Montenegro.

Townsend, whose dad Troy works for the anti-discrimination charity Kick It Out, said: 'Danny's a very brave man for coming out and being so honest and speaking the truth. We need more players like Danny to speak out, to say what they really feel.

'We've got to move on in football and kick racism out as much as we can. It's crept back in a little bit which is not great.

'We need more players like Danny and the young lad at Juventus (Moise Kean) to speak out, because that will force action.'

Crystal Palace winger Townsend says he has so far avoided racist abuse, but he knows that others have not been so fortunate.

'Luckily, so far, I haven't experienced racism, but I know Danny has on more than one occasion,' he added. 'He's experienced it from England Under 21s to the other day in Montenegro. We all support him. He's an incredible person.

'Hopefully the system can help Danny and he can enjoy his football again. I don't know why it's still going on (racism).

'Hopefully the relevant organisations will do their best to stamp it out, like the one my dad works for. They're working their very hardest to stamp it out once and for all.'
