Ange Postecoglou vows to 'leave no stone unturned' in getting Tottenham back where they belong

New Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has informed fans of his intention to take the club in a ‘new direction’ in his first comments as manager.

The 57-year-old agreed a deal to move to north London from Celtic on Tuesday, ending months of speculation surrounding the vacant post.

Postecoglou officially takes the reins on July 1, but has been quick to make himself known to supporters with an impassioned message where shared his vision for the club.

‘It’s great to finally get started as manager of this great football club,’ Postecoglou said in a video posted by the club. ‘I’m really looking forward to our task ahead.

‘I think it’s an exciting opportunity for us to set off on a new direction. Play football and create an environment that embodies the values and tradition of this fantastic football club. Hopefully [build] a team that you can all be proud of and more importantly, get excited by.'

As the first Australian to manage in the Premier League, Postecoglou is already a trailblazer. But he’ll ultimately hope to leave a more significant mark on a club that has been aimlessly drifting since the departure of Mauricio Pochettino in 2019.

No Spurs fan will be keen to relive their 2022/23 Premier League campaign that saw an eighth-placed finish and humiliating defeats to Leicester City, Newcastle United and Bournemouth.

The incoming boss signalled he appreciation of the need to get supporters back on side and insisted his team will put in the hard yards to do so.

He added: ‘I can assure you that right through pre-season, we won’t leave any stone unturned, myself, the staff and the players to make sure that when the league comes around that you’ll be all as excited as I am about the season ahead.

‘So I really look forward to seeing everyone at the stadium, in particular at our first home game, and look forward to the journey ahead.'
