Manchester United are edging closer to securing Angel Gomes' long-term future, with the midfielder set to sign a £25,000-per-week deal.
Gomes caught the eye during his rise through United's academy before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer bled him into the first-team this season.
However, he has only managed six appearances in 2019-20 while fellow youngsters Daniel James, Mason Greenwood, Brandon Williams and Scott McTominay were granted more regular minutes.
Chelsea have reportedly been monitoring the talent ahead of Gomes' contract expiring this summer but according to the Sun he is on the brink of putting his concerns aside and extending.
With United set to get their Premier League campaign back underway against Tottenham on June 19, Gomes could be expecting more minutes with five substitutes now allowed in the English top-flight.
Solskjaer will continue with his youthful philosophy for the behind-closed-door games, a strategy that finally began to work before lockdown as United rose to fifth with an impressive run of form.
Champions League qualification is the aim, with fourth placed Chelsea the target, sitting three points ahead.
United also still have the possibility of securing qualification via the Europa League, waiting for confirmation that the UEFA competition will resume.
