Manchester United prospect Angel Gomes made a last-ditch attempt to engineer a loan to another Premier League side on Deadline Day only to see the move blocked by the Red Devils.
The 19-year-old's contract at Old Trafford is up at the end of the season and he had hoped to get some first team football under his belt until the summer before assessing his future.
But according to MEN, there was never a chance that United would green-light any temporary switch with his contract dispute yet to be resolved.
Highly regarded Gomes, who joined the club's academy at the age of six, is on the radar of a number of top sides, including Barcelona, and a loan deal would have helped put him in the shop window before being available for free at the end of the season.
But United were keen for him to stay put as talks with his representatives continue, with the two parties thought to be still some way apart.
Gomes would have had his work cut out to complete a loan deal away from United in any case, as he was playing for the club's Under-23 side at Norwich on the Friday night of Deadline Day.
United have been locked in talks with Gomes since the start of the season, and his manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had blocked another loan move for Gomes the previous January.
Gomes is not the only young star the Red Devils face losing this summer - as exciting midfielder Tahith Chong, 20, is also heading towards the exit door on a free transfer.
Solskjaer has made it clear he wants both players to sign new contracts and said they were in the best place to develop their talents.
'We've had lots of conversations with the boys,' Solskjaer said recently. 'Obviously their contracts run out in the summer but we want them to stay.
'I can't see a better place for a young lad that's come through the ranks in the academy to play first team football. Both Angel and [Tahith] Chongy have been here for many, many years.
'We just want them to continue their development and hopefully they can see that when young lads take their chance, they'll get more opportunities.'
Gomes has played six times for United this season - twice in the league, once in the League Cup and three games in the Europa League. Chong, meanwhile, has featured in eight games, including two outings in the FA Cup.

I see your reasoning as well it makes sense but I guess also the pressure on the manager to get results could be a factor thus relying on Pereira and Lingard locking out Gomes. Either way we have Bruno now so I guess Homes should go out on loan
Yup.., Fernandes Will Be Our No π. Hope Solskjaer Not Going Play Him Out Of Position. Gomes Refused To Sign A New Contract Offered By Us, Think He Is Fed Up. He Will Leave Eventually.., That's Inevitable.

Bruz.., I Do Agreed That Chong Failed Miserably, He Totally Flopped It. But His Position Is A Winger Where We Have Rashford.., James And Greenwood Which All Trio Performed Brilliantly. Chong Really Got No Complaints Anymore If He Don't Get To Play Now Because It's His Problem Not Others. As For Gomes.., He Didn't Get Enough Playing Times Compared To Chong. When He See The Likes Of Pereira And Lingard Playing At No:π And Performed Badly.., He Must Be Thinking He Might Do A Better Job Than Them.., Wondering Why Solskjaer Keeps On Fielding Them Instead Of Giving Him More Chances.....

The reason Greenwood and Williams are getting chances is simply because they deliver, they even threaten to be first choice players in their positions, honestly Gomes and Chong have not really offered anything to the team if u have watched the matches.

Solskjaer Didn't Give Gomes Enough Chances Before The Midway Of The Season. Played Him One Game And Didn't See Him Again After Couples Of Weeks Later. I Did Agreed On The Part Our Academy Youngsters Must Seize Their Chances When They Are Being Given But Greenwood And Williams Are Having Chances After Chances Where Gomes Doesn't. Solskjaer Is The One That Kept On Playing Useless Pereira.., Started Him For Almost Every Single Match. Solskjaer Is The One That Promised Our Youngsters Playing Time.., Not Me. Of Course Solskjaer Is The Manager.., Not Me. Simply Because I Am Not The CLUELESS ONE.

I understand why they dont want to give him loan. He hasnt agreed a new deal so if he goes on loan while not yet settled his contract, he may be easily enticed to leave for free when his contract expires

I honestly believe he has given them enough time and the season is still long, right now results matter, the team has not been performing well so it's difficult for Angel and Chong to get lots of game time but they have had their chances, Mason Greenwood and Williams have taken their chances. It is still u the fans that will crucify and criticize Ole when the team loses, if he fields these players and united lost, fans will complain on why he is playing youngsters, everyone has an opinion but there is a reason why he is the manager and you are not.

If United loses this guys tchong and Gomes itβll be sad considering how good they are and can be great aspects in the team since they grew up in it. Letβs hope they both sign new contracts and if they donβt get enough time in the first team they should at least be loaned to go get the experience

if you arnt going to use him then loan him out for a season to get some experience. why keep him sitting on the bench and in the u23s and not use him fml

Epl is very tough, buh Greenwood n williams r performing.I think de chance dat Pereira wasted in de starting XI could've bin given 2 Gomez 2 prove his wealth..nw dat Bruno is in,it wil b very difficult buh starting him 4rm de bench is nt bad.it wil help him build up very well in his development. Gomez is our future.GGMUβ€

Gomes you are not amazing like Greenwood or Williams. Ole can't give chance any player from academy. it's not work like that. Players who's got talent get chance but players who are not ready need improve. If Gomes really want play he need improve and work hard. Keep working Gomes
buh I think Ole could hv given him tym at pereira's position since he's nt living up 2 expectation buh nw Bruno is in..I dnt knw

premier league is not easy, you don't just play anyhow, it requires patience. he'll shine if he goes to teams like BVB. He has to wait calmly as he works hard to get to the first team.

Just sign the contract and get your playing time . cut that big wage deal

Instead of benching them all through the season, it would be judicious give them in short term loan to enable increase their play time

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.., Ain't You The One That Promised To Give Enough Chances For Our Academy Youngsters?! Ain't You The One That Said They Are Our Future?! You Rather Keep On Starting Pereira (Athough Everyone Know By Now He Really Can't Make The Grade) Day In Day Out Than Give Gomes Enough Playing Time To Prove Himself. Empty Promises.., Clueless One You Are, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. ππ» ππ» ππ»

100% agreed ! We have Chong who can play on the right wing yet keep on playing James when itβs obvious he is tired . We have gomes but keep on playing pereira who look clueless
