Fans have taken to social media to slam Antony after his outrageous dive went without punishment during Brazil's quarter-final defeat to Croatia.

The Manchester United forward entered the match as a second half substitute at the Education City Stadium, with the South Americans struggling to find a way to break down the stubborn Croats.

However, instead of hitting the headlines for finding an opening in the match, the 22-year-old sent fans into outrage as he hit the deck following a collision with Ivan Perisic.

Tottenham star Perisic and Antony clashed on the edge of the a Croatia box, but the Brazilian fell to the floor without any contact whatsoever with an atrocious dive.

Unbelievably, Premier League referee Michael Oliver failed to punish Antony for the act of simulation, leaving fans baffled to why his attempts to win a free-kick were not met with a booking.

'Embarrassing dive from Antony there. Should have gotten a yellow for that'. One fan protested, while another complaint stated 'Can't believe Antony escaped a yellow card for that dive.'

Other comments place blame at Michael Oliver's door and questioned why he failed to book the Brazilian star.

'Why wasn't Antony booked for that blatant dive by Michael Oliver when he had the best view. ' While another criticised the decision by the English official by saying 'Antony should have been booked for that dive. That's shameful. And awful refereeing.'

One Premier League fan also hoped we wouldn't be see that kind of behaviour when the Man Utd are back in action at the end of the month.

He said: 'Antony should be booked for that dive! Better not be doing that when he's back at United!'

While Antony's complaints after the incident, where he demanded a free-kick, drew further complaints. 'Antony blatantly dives and still ask for a free-kick after ref ain't given it. Shameless.' said another social post.

Perhaps the most damming comment towards Antony came from another user who said: 'A dive worthy of Michael Phelps' praise from Antony there'. As he compared the simulation to the work of the Olympic winning diver.

Antony's attempts to fool the referee were part of Brazil's last moments in Qatar as they crashed out of the tournament after a penalty shoot-out defeat.

Neymar had given Tite's side the lead in extra time, before Bruno Petkovic levelled to take the tie to penalties. Rodrygo and Marquinhos missed their spot-kicks to see Croatia go through to a semi-final meeting with Argentina or the Netherlands.
