Argentina are confident of securing Alejandro Garnacho's international allegiance despite Manchester United's rising star being ruled out of their upcoming matches through injury.
The 18-year-old winger was handed his first call up to the Argentina senior squad earlier this month, following a series of impressive displays for Man United.
Garnacho was forced to withdraw from the squad after sustaining an ankle injury in the Red Devils goalless draw with Southampton.
The teenager is eligible to represent Spain having been born in Madrid, with the winger having played three matches for their under-18 side in 2021.
Garnacho played for Argentina under-20s last March, with the world champions director of international scouting Juan Martin Tassi expressing confidence he will confirm his allegiance to the nation.
'We have a fluid dialogue with Garnacho and his family,' Tassi told Argentina sports newspaper Ole.
'It's not something of a moment, but something that developed over time.
'He is very happy to be taken into account by the Argentine national team.
'The case of Garnacho is the product of the work we have been doing, the closeness that we propose on a day-to-day basis made him lean towards Argentina.
'All this accompaniment is essential and they feel it.'
Garnacho, whose mother is Argentinian, would likely have made his senior debut for the nation in their upcoming friendlies against Panama and Curacao.
The home friendlies are part of the nation's celebrations after winning the World Cup in Qatar last year.
Garnacho appeared to confirm Tassi's view he will represent Argentina, having declared his involvement with the national team would have been a 'proud moment for me and my family' when announcing his withdrawal through injury.
The pacey attacker has enjoyed a breakthrough season for Man United having made 29 appearances in all competitions for Erik ten Hag's side.
Garnacho's progress is expected to be rewarded with a significantly improved contract.
