Barcelona have out-of-favour Premier League defenders Nacho Monreal and Alberto Moreno on a three-man summer shortlist to provide cover for Jordi Alba.

According to Sport , the Arsenal and Liverpool defenders have emerged as top targets alongside Atletico Madrid man Filipe Luis.

They are both out of contract in the summer and likely to depart their clubs after struggling for playing time this season.

Yet they could land on their feet with a shock move to the Nou Camp as short-term defensive cover on a two-year deal.

Teenager Juan Miranda is being groomed as the long-term successor to Spain international Alba but they are keen to ease him into action and ensure they have quality cover for the time being.

The Catalan club secured a five-year extension for Alba yesterday to tie down his future at the club he joined from Valencia back in 2012.

They will now turn their attentions on securing experienced backup on the cheap as they target a free transfer for either Moreno, Monreal or ex-Chelsea man Luis.

Ernesto Valverde is also said to be looking to ship out 20-year-old Marc Cucurella permanently.

The left-back has spent this season on loan at Eibar and is not seen as part of their future plans with Miranda preferred as their one for the future.

Former Sevilla man Moreno, 26, has made just five appearances for Liverpool this season in all competitions and looks certain to depart in the summer.

Monreal, 33, has featured 21 times for Arsenal, but much of that was caused by their winter injury crisis defensively and he is not seen as a part of Unai Emery's future plans.

Luis has also had to settle for bit-part role in Madrid as he is now targeted by their La Liga title rivals when his deal expires in the summer.

The trio are the obvious big-name full-backs set to come onto the market as free agents in the summer and are not expected to be short of options with various European clubs circling to offer contracts.
