Arsenal are the first reigning PL champion to exit League Cup to fourth-tier opposition

A shocking upset occurred in the fourth round of the English League Cup, as Arsenal were eliminated after losing a penalty shootout away to Fleetwood Town.

Arsenal were the Premier League champions last season, while Fleetwood Town compete in League Two – the fourth tier of English football – but it was the visitors who ultimately prevailed.

Following this defeat, Arsenal became the first reigning Premier League champions in English League Cup history to be eliminated by a League Two side.
