Arsenal boss Arteta handed new double transfer deadline to complete Forest plan

Arsenal transfer news: The Gunners have a firm deadline to complete their next two deals with the Premier League's return on the horizon.

Arsenal are in a race against time to complete the signing of David Raya from Brentford.

It's not the first time the English shot-stopper will have had to prove himself. When he joined from Sheffield United in 2021 he was initially back-up to Bernd Leno before usurping him to become the undisputed and undoubted number one.

In what is a spooky scenario for Arsenal and Turner, the two could face off against each other on Saturday. Forest travel to the Emirates Stadium on the opening weekend of the Premier League, kicking off the action on August 12 with the early game.

In order for that to happen, Arsenal need to complete the sale and have Turner registered with Forest by 12pm on Friday, August 11. It is still in the mix as to whether he will make that cut off and the same principle applies for Raya.

“I think their focus right now is trying to complete this deal for David Raya at Brentford with Matt Turner going to Nottingham Forest,” he told Hayters TV.

“My expectation right now is that they are going to move towards an agreement with Brentford for David Raya. They were a bit short of where they needed to be with their initial offer.

“Brentford, before Arsenal stepping forward, were quite clear in wanting £40m. Arsenal would want to go far lower than that and maybe they’ll meet somewhere in the middle.

“But it’s a move that both clubs want to make happen, so you sense then a compromise will be found. It probably depends on Turner exiting and Nottingham Forest being the club that wants to take him, and closing in on that deal.

“I expect that whole situation to have resolved itself by probably the start of the week.”

They will also be reluctant to go into the game with Forest if Turner has left but Raya hasn't joined. It's a bit of a scramble across the line at this point but Arsenal will just be happy to get their man.
