Arsenal fans despair with Mustafi after block attempt in Al-Nasr win

Shkodran Mustafi has not endeared himself to Arsenal supporters since his £35million move from Valencia in August 2016, with a series of comical errors.

Their relationship reached a new low on Tuesday after Mustafi's abysmal attempt to block a shot during a friendly against Al-Nasr in Dubai.

Mustafi made a half-hearted sliding tackle to try and intercept Al-Nasr's Ronnie Fernandez on the edge of the area after 14 minutes.

Having come nowhere near the ball, Mustafi fell flat on his backside, as Fernandez curled the ball into the back of the net past Bernd Leno via the post, to give the UAE side a shock lead.

Although the Premier League team came back to win 3-2, the 26-year-old German came in for severe criticism from Gunners fans on social media.

They were understandably concerned with Mustafi's struggles to deal with players from the UAE Arabian Gulf League, let alone Premier League or Europa League opponents.

One fan suggested Mustafi was having a lie down for a nap, while another suggested manager Unai Emery simply leave the centre back in Dubai.

In answer to the question of what was going on in Mustafi's brain, another tweeted a GIF from The Simpsons Movie of a toy monkey playing cymbals in Homer's head.

Mustafi's blushes were spared by Carl Jenkinson, the unexpected scorer of Arsenal's 42nd-minute equaliser.

Alexandre Lacazette put the Gunners ahead in the second half, before youngster Tyreece John-Jules bagged the third.
