Joel Ideho's winning goal in an Arsenal XI match at St Albans City on Monday has been hailed as a work of genius after coming from close to the halfway line.

The 19-year-old picked up the ball in the Gunners half midway through the second half. He dribbled forward, and made an impressive lob from close to 50 yards, while next to the centre circle, after spotting goalkeeper Loris Marcimin off his line.

It proved to be the only goal in the match, which was attended by 2,601 fans at the Mozzarella Fellas Stadium at Clarence Park.

Arsenal fans have been quick to celebrate the 'spectacular' and 'ridiculous' nature of the Dutch teen's goal, after it appeared on social media.

One said: 'Wow! Take a bow Joel Ideho that's some goal: Beckhamesque!', because of its similarity to David Beckham's long-range classic from 1996 - almost seven years before Ideho was born.

It's not the first time Ideho he has made such an impressive strike either, leading another commentator to note: 'Everybody's got to have a special move'.

On Twitter, fans have been responding with other top quality strikes from Ideho, including one for Arsenal's youth team which capitalised on a Southampton error.

Another highlighted a delightful chip which Ideho made at Ajax, where the Dutchman played before joining the Gunners.

St Albans City will be hoping to avoid being on the wrong end of another strike like that when they face Chelmsford City in their first league game of the season on Saturday.

For Ideho and the Arsenal under-21s, their campaign also begins on Saturday against Manchester United.
