Arsenal fans have been left divided after Granit Xhaka issued a statement following his spat with supporters during the draw to Crystal Palace.
Xhaka had been hauled off in the draw with Roy Hodgson's side at the Emirates last Sunday, and promptly stole the headlines after telling home fans to 'f*** off' after they jeered him off.
He also cupped his ear while heading towards the touchline, and took his shirt off in frustration before storming down the tunnel at the Emirates.
The Switzerland international has since penned a statement on social media, breaking the silence following the controversial incident last Sunday.
Xhaka revealed in his message that he had received 'repeated abusive comments at matches and on social media' over the last couple of weeks, which were horrifically directed at him and his loved ones.
Xhaka admitted he let himself get 'carried away and reacted in a way that disrespected the group of fans that support our club, our team and myself', before insisting he was 'sorry' for his actions on Sunday.
But the midfielder's statement has been met by a range of different opinions, with some backing the captain while others claimed he didn't apologise.
One fan wrote: 'Xhaka's statement doesn't feel like an apology to me. Yes, he might get nasty comments on social media. Actually, no. He WILL get nasty comments on social media. He has millions of followers, that's the modern game. But he's not really apologised to all the genuine supporters?'
Another added: 'Xhaka's message was not an apology, it's a story. He still has a lot to do regardless of any forms of criticism he's received in the past. That's the price you pay for being a big club's captain.'
Others also felt Xhaka failed to issue an apology, with one claiming: 'I don't see an apology for disrespecting the badge and throwing the shirt on the floor.'
However, others took a much more lenient approach and backed the Arsenal skipper as they hope for a quick resolve to the tricky situation.
An Arsenal fan wrote on Twitter: 'We're with you Granit. Pick that captains armband back up and lead us to victory. We're in together!'
Another said on social media: 'Understood and respected. We move on and try to fix this mess with immediate effect. We need leaders not cry babies. Everyone needs to pull together asap.'
And finally, one supporter told the 27-year-old to keep his 'head up', before claiming 'anyone in your position would have acted in the similar way.'

Arsenal fans are disgusting . Look what they said and did and expwct him not to react . If you dont accept his apology the fuck off ypu dont deserve it . They should apologise too . Especailly since they abused Aubameyang as well when he is the only reason why they have top 4 hopes!

Whatever you may think, although both both parties were wrong, i dont think he should play this weekend, he should be rested for a bit and let things cool down i foresee a lot chaos if he comes back too soon, im truly sorry he had this sort of abuse i dont even know how he kept his cool but the reality is that once you are a footballer you will be slated when u play bad, some fans will be genuine in their criticism, some will go very low and personal both Messi and Neymar suffered this, Xhaka you are not exempt im sorry for what u suffered but the reality some fans will not forgive u or even forget this, but take this advice if this was meant for an apology then u need to actually say sorry if it was not then ok and then raise your game because for me i cant make a case for u as to y u should be in the first team you are currently average and if any arsenal fan is honest with themselves he didnt help himself, you can line up every fan that booed and banned them from games but it wouldnt change the fact we as a club are very poor
