Shkodran Mustafi reportedly wants to stay and fight for his place at Arsenal , despite the club's attempts to sell the defender.

The German centre-back, who joined the Gunners in 2016, has had a difficult time at the Emirates Stadium since his £35million move from Valencia.

He endured yet another disappointing campaign in north London last season as Arsenal conceded 51 goals in the Premier League on their way to a fifth-placed finish.

The 27-year-old was booed by fans during Sunday's defeat to Lyon in the Emirates Cup and it has been claimed that Unai Emery has lost faith in the defender.

With the club looking to offload Mustafi, it was recently reported that French club Monaco have enquired about the availability of the German.

And although Arsenal are believed to be in talks with several clubs, BBC Sport's David Ornstein reports that the player does not want to leave.

According to Ornstein, the former Valencia man, who is under contract with the club until 2021, wants to remain at the Emirates and prove himself.

Despite the player's wishes, it is claimed that the Gunners want Mustafi off their books and are open to either a permanent or loan move
