Arsenal 'issue transfer demand' of Napoli in push to settle Ospina future

Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina left the Emirates Stadium last summer following the arrival of Bernd Leno in North London.

The German's arrival plus the position of Petr Cech meant the Colombian would have been third choice in 2018-19.

Thus, Ospina moved to the Stadio San Paolo, joining Italian side Napoli on a season-long loan deal.

And all signs have pointed towards the Serie A runners-up making that deal permanent this summer.

The Partenopei have hinted on a number of occasions their desire to keep the 30-year-old at the club.

However, Ospina was dropped towards the end of the season, and finished one game short of the 25 that would have triggered the purchase option in his deal.

Now, that option - worth just £3million - is due to run out and Arsenal are demanding that the Italians make a decision in the coming days, according to The Sun.

Ospina's future remains unresolved, leaving him in limbo while preparing for the Copa America.

Ospina's contract with the Gunners has just 12 months remaining and he could return to the club, where he would operate as backup to Leno following Cech's retirement.

But there are also suggestions that Napoli remain keen to complete a permanent move, however are unwilling to pay the £3million figure - instead wanting to cut a deal at £2million.

Arsenal are also wary that Lucas Torreira has hinted he would be open to returning to Italy.

The Uruguayan has become a cult figure with supporters since joining from Sampdoria in a £26million deal last summer.

But the diminutive midfielder has admitted he had endured difficulties adapting to life in England, amid speculation linking him with a return to Serie A at AC Milan.

"I think it was better in Italy. England is a totally different world, a very large country.

"The language [barrier] has stopped me, to be able to relate with my teammates and with the people. It is very difficult when you can’t have dialogue."
