Arsenal are reportedly closely monitoring Diego Costa's situation at Atletico Madrid with Mikel Arteta keen to land the former Chelsea striker next month.
Costa's contract in the Spanish capital is up as of June 2021 but he is said to have instructed the Atletico hierarchy to terminate it six months early, according to reports in Spain.
AS Diario report that Atletico do not want to sell to a direct rival and with Arsenal not participating in the Champions League, interest in a move to the Emirates Stadium could suit all parties.
Costa is said to want to remain in Europe as he is convinced he has 'two or three seasons' left at the highest level.
He has experience in the Premier League having spent three years with Arsenal's London rivals, Chelsea.
The 32-year-old has been dogged by injuries this season and has seen Luis Suarez and Joao Felix establish themselves as a potent attacking duo for Diego Simeone.
Costa has only made three substitute appearances in more than two months and scored only once since the beginning of the campaign.
Arsenal are seen as offering a 'favourable situation' for Costa and Atletico as they look to work out a potential deal for him to leave his contract six months early.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is determined to add reinforcements in January to help salvage a campaign that has threatened a relegation battle.
His misfiring strikers have managed just 15 goals in the Premier League this season, with Arsenal slumped in 15th.
Costa won the Premier League title twice during his time at Stamford Bridge and even with his injury concerns he would bring a winning mentality that is missing from Arteta's squad right now.
An ability to move Costa on in the January window would allow Simeone to make an attacking move of his own.
Reports in Spain say that Napoli outcast Arkadiusz Milik, who has previously been linked with Tottenham and Everton, is their primary target if Costa departs.

What's wrong with Arteta on recruitment issues? Diego Costa will not be better than Willian. If he's prone to injuries then why does Arteta think coming to Arsenal will change that? And with that age.. Arteta is going to turn Arsenal into a retirement home. Look for players who are regular and scoring highly in their clubs. You will find clubs that need money desperately enough to want to sell such players. Not people you used to admire in their days of glory. If money is made available use it well and bring quality players who will give us points. I'm already worried about what might happen if Leno is injured. Judging from what I saw during the match against Man City, a good goal keeper is also a priority. We've suffered beyond measure, to the point of losing to Burnley. Arteta has made history in that regard.
