Arsenal scouts are reportedly keeping an eye on Hungarian and Red Bull Salzburg star Dominik Szoboszlai, as a potential replacement for Granit Xhaka.

Xhaka has not played for the Gunners since he was stripped of his captaincy after his meltdown against the club's supporters, following the 2-2 home draw with Crystal Palace on October 27.

Now Football Insider have reported that they have been told from an Arsenal source that the club regard the midfielder as a 'genuine contender to replace Xhaka in their midfield'.

The report states that the Gunners sent scouts to watch the Hungarian during his national team's match with Wales on Tuesday.

Arsenal had attempted to sign the star from Salzburg during the summer but their advances were knocked back.

Szoboszlai, 19, has been tipped as one of the hottest prospects in football across Europe.

The teenager has impressed for both club and country over the last 18 months and clubs such as Juventus and Inter Milan are also believed to be interested in his signature.

Salzburg are keen to keep hold of their man but know they could face a battle to keep him should they fail to get out of the Champions League group stage.

The club are currently third in their group but could still qualify if they win both of their remaining games against Genk and Liverpool.

Szoboszlai has played for Salzburg 16 times this season in all competitions, scoring four goals.
