Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is reportedly set to be commemorated outside the Emirates Stadium with a statue.

Wenger, who is the north London club's most successful manager, will be immortalised alongside former captain Tony Adams and iconic strikers Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp, according to Gunnerblog.

The French manager managed the Gunners for 22 years, bringing them 17 honours in the process, before his eventual departure in 2018.

Though the latter period of his tenure drew heavy criticism from sections of the Arsenal fan base, Wenger's time at the club was undoubtedly the most successful in the Gunners' history.

Having arrived as a relative unknown from Japanese outfit Nagoya Grampus Eight in 1996, Wenger guided the club to the Premier League double within two years, repeating the feat again in 2001/02.

The legendary French manager's greatest achievement at Arsenal, though, came two seasons later when his Arsenal side - featuring icons Bergkamp and Henry - won the Premier League without losing, thereby earning the nickname 'the Invincibles'.

Wenger won three Premier League titles at Arsenal, as well as a record seven FA Cups and Community Shields, and was narrowly defeated in the 2006 Champions League final 2-1 by Barcelona.

Though he will soon be immortalised in statue form, Arsenal have already dedicated a mural to their legendary manager, reading: 'Here you have the opportunity to get out the greatness that is in each of you.'

Wenger has stayed away from the club since his less than ceremonious departure, and has since taken up a role as FIFA's director of development.

However, current boss Mikel Arteta has indicated the club would gladly welcome him back in some capacity.

He said: 'What I can say is that I would like him to be much closer personally to me.

'Because I think it would be a great help, and it would be a great help for the club.

'Things take time and I think he has to dictate those timings. What I can say is from my side and I can talk, I think, on behalf of everybody that we would be delighted to have him much closer.'

Since Wenger's departure, the Gunners have struggled to reclaim their status as one of English football's powerhouses.

They have failed to reach the Champions League since crashing out in the second round in 2016/17 after a 5-1 aggregate thrashing from Bayern Munich, after Wenger guided them to every previous incarnation of club football's greatest tournament.
