Nicolas Tagliafico looks set to leave Ajax in the summer after rejecting an improvement on his contract from the club.

He still has three years remaining on his current contract, but according to his agent, Ricardo Schlieper, he said no to the new offer because it's 'time to take a leap.'

The left-back has drawn the attention of a number of clubs around Europe, including Arsenal and Atletico Madrid.

Speaking with Muy Independiente, Schlieper said 'Ajax made an economic offer to match what the clubs claiming to Nicolas could afford, but it was not accepted because it is the just time to take a leap. Let's see what happens in the market.

'Nico has an enormous virtue that is his professionalism, his entire discipline. This, sooner or later, takes you to the place you want.'

Tagliafico responded to interest from Atletico Madrid earlier this month, saying: 'If [Atletico manager Diego] Simeone is interested in me and really wants me it means I'm doing well but the important thing now though is to think about Ajax.'

Arsenal are thought to be the main rivals for the Argentine international's signature as they look to replace the aging Nacho Monreal.

Tagliafico has played 34 games for Ajax this season across all competitions, scoring five goals and providing three assists. He was part of the team that staged a famous win over Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Ajax are currently second in the Dutch Eredivisie, five points off leaders PSV Eindhoven.

It was thought that Ajax would be willing to part with Tagliafico for around £8million in the summer, however Schlieper believes 'it will be more than 20 million euros.'
