Arsenal are close to clinching a deal to recruit former midfielder Edu as their first ever technical director.
Talks over the Brazilian's return to north London are now at an advanced stage and the appointment of the 41-year-old now viewed as inevitable.
Edu is currently with the Brazil national team at the Copa America in his role as general co-ordinator.
But negotiations regarding Edu's release after the tournament are well underway.
Sportsmail understands the Brazil Football Federation have agreed to waive a £6million compensation fee - which would have been a significant obstacle in Edu's arrival given Arsenal's tight finances - a development that should secure the appointment.
Edu made over 100 appearances for the Gunners during a five-year career at the club - winning two Premier League titles and two FA Cups.
Arsenal's head of football Raul Sanllehi turned to Edu after a move for famed talent-spotter Monchi fell through after the Spaniard chose to return to Sevilla.
Edu will be expected to work within a restricted budget following three consecutive seasons without Champions League football.
