Arsenal are reportedly interested in a deal to sign Dries Mertens from Napoli, according to a report in Italy.
The Belgian star is all set to leave Napoli at the end of the current season, with his contract due to expire at the end of June.
Considering he has scored 121 goals in 309 appearances since moving to Italy in 2013, the diminutive frontman will be a much-coveted commodity in the summer.
Arsenal, according to Il Mattino, are keeping tabs on the situation, along with Atletico Madrid.

This is why we are moving backwards; Signing old players past their prime to 'solve' our problem positions. speaking of age, Mertens is 32 and will turn 33 next month. He is more lethal as a striker than a winger as Sarri proved - he tested Mertens in the striker position when they worked together at Napoli, to devastating effect. If Auba leaves and Mertens comes, it may stall the progress of Nketiah, Gabi, Nelson and Willock to some extent. We should go for someone younger like Zaniolo, Havertz, Aouar, Sabitzer or Nkunku. Our board must understand the importance of thinking ahead with our transfer dealings and unearthing more gems in the mould of Martinelli in every position across the pitch. It will be a long time (5 or 6 years minimum) before we get back to our glory days again. Arteta is doing his best with what he's got and we commend him for that. He just needs the required backing from our board in the transfer market to improve our squad & strengthen our spine.
