Arsenal are finally closing in on the signing of Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres, while the club are also focusing on strengthening their next generation of stars

Things are coming together for Arsenal in the summer transfer window, with Viktor Gyokeres set to become the latest big-money signing.

Arsenal have already signed Martin Zubimendi, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Christian Norgaard and have sporting director Andrea Berta working hard on more deals. The Gunners are chasing Sporting Lisbon striker Gyokeres, Valencia defender Cristian Mosquera and Chelsea winger Noni Madueke.

Madueke has completed his medical and Arsenal are confident that both Gyokeres and Mosquera will be theirs' in the coming days. The Gunners are about to jet off to Asia on their pre-season tour, so this is a crucial time for Mikel Arteta and his coaching staff.

There is still work to do as the club tries to bridge the gap between second place - where they have finished for the past three seasons - and first in the Premier League. Here are the latest pieces of transfer news concerning Arsenal.

Gyokeres drops clear hint

Gyokeres has been desperate to get his exit from Sporting sorted and he is now close to getting his wish. Arsenal have finally agreed terms with the Portuguese club over a €73.5million (£63.5m) transfer fee - and Gyokeres is packing his bags.

A removal van was shown outside Gyokeres' house on Portuguese television on Thursday, with Record confirming the authenticity of the images and reporting that the Swede sent a friend to oversee the process.

Talks are continuing between the two clubs and Gyokeres' representatives over the finer details of the transfer, but it is clearly close. Once the deal is completed, the 27-year-old could fly out to join his new team-mates on their pre-season tour.

First contract for youngster

Louis Zecevic-John is hoping to follow in the footsteps of Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly after signing his first professional deal with Arsenal. The 17-year-old had another year to run on his scholarship contract, but after contributing seven goals and seven assists in 22 games last season, he has earned fresh terms.

The winger has noted the success of attacker Nwaneri and left-back Myles-Skelly and wants to target a first-team breakthrough in the coming year.

“They're only a few years above me and just looking at the steps they took, Myles wasn't necessarily a left-back, but taking the opportunity as a left-back," he told the club website. "Now they’re starting for Arsenal. I think Ethan and Myles are huge inspirations to hopefully follow their tracks to the first-team.”

Gunners hijack Liverpool move

Arsenal have muscled in to poach a highly-regarded young striker from under the noses of Liverpool. The Reds had been in pole position to sign Will Wright from Salford City after making the League Two club an offer.

But Liverpool have now accepted defeat in the race for the 17-year-old striker after Arsenal gazumped them. Arsenal have submitted a bid worth £250,000 plus add-ons for Wright, way more than the £100,000 plus add-ons the Reds had offered previously.

Wright has attracted attention from Manchester City, Brentford, Leicester City and Burnley with his goal scoring exploits.
