Arteta gives update on Saka after the Arsenal star forced off against Ipswich

Mikel Arteta revealed that Arsenal will 'wait and see' on the fitness for Bukayo Saka ahead of their clash against Crystal Palace, while offering a worrying update on the condition of Jorginho.

Saka was withdrawn on 57 minutes after Leif Davis' rash challenge caught him on his Achilles in the first half - resulting in the full back being shown a red card.

The forward looked to play on but was taken off by Arteta as a precaution shortly after the restart and had an ice applied to his ankle while sitting on the bench. He was later spotted hobbling toward the team bus when leaving the ground.

Ahead of the Gunners' Premier League fixture against Palace at the Emirates - which could see Liverpool confirmed as champions if they suffer defeat - Arteta revealed that the Englishman is not suffering with anything 'too serious' and will be used if needed.

'We have to wait and see how he reacts after the situation,' said Arteta. 'But it's nothing too serious. If we want him to, I think he will have a good chance to play tomorrow.'

However, the outlook was not as positive for Jorginho, who looked to be the most likely replacement for the suspended Thomas Partey when Arsenal take on Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League semi-final first leg next week.

The Gunners boss said the Brazilian, who injured his ribs during a 1-1 draw with Brentford earlier this month, will be out 'for a few weeks'.

Arteta will do doubt address that headache when it comes to the tie but ahead of their mammoth contest, attention is firmly on ensuring they do not hand the title to Liverpool on Wednesday night.

Arne Slot's side will be confirmed as champions if Palace claim victory in north London. And though Arsenal's finishing position is not yet confirmed, the Gunners look set to finish as runners-up for the third season in a row.

Last week, Arteta suggested that injuries and red cards left his side destined to miss out on the title again this term.  When asked whether Arsenal could have done more to challenge Liverpool, Arteta said: 'For sure there would be things that we could have done.

'If not, you would have won every game regardless of any injuries, any situation, any red card, any referee decision. But it is what it is.

'We will make an analysis of what we've done well and not that well at the end of the season.

'But probably the question would be, if you asked me in August, 'With all these things that are going to happen to your team, where do you see your team finishing?'

'Probably that (second place) would be the right answer.'
