Arteta insists Arsenal's transfer plans have NOT changed after Nelson's injury against Juventus

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has insisted his January transfer plans are unchanged despite a recent injury to Reiss Nelson.

The 23-year-old went down with a hamstring issue during Arsenal's recent 2-0 win over Juventus in a winter friendly, and was forced off the pitch.

If he does face a period on the sidelines, it will be a blow for the winger as he looks to work his way into the Gunners first team after loan spells at Hoffenheim and Feyenoord.

Arteta had little news to offer as he addressed reporters after the game. He said: 'We don't know the extent of the injury.

'The fact he had to leave the pitch immediately is not good news, especially someone like Reiss, who is really powerful and fast.

'Let's see what happens. We know what we have to do and that hasn't changed the plans.'

Losing any players will be a blow for the Gunners as they look to turn an excellent start to the season into something more concrete.

They currently sit five points clear at the top of the Premier League after 14 games but concerns have been raised over their squad depth.

Ukrainian and Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk has been heavily linked with the Emirates, and securing his signature this January could be vital, especially if they are to be without Nelson for any length of time.
