Mikel Arteta is a 'Mercedes version of Neil Warnock' and Arsenal are better served making statements about the behaviour of their manager and players, rather than 'embarrassing' comments about referees, claims the CEO of Ref Support UK.
Arteta and Arsenal were left incensed this weekend after Anthony Gordon's match-deciding goal was allowed to stand, while Bruno Guimaraes avoided punishment for a supposed elbow on Jorginho.
The Arsenal boss described the winning goal from Gordon an 'absolute disgrace' when he spoke after the match, before adding that he felt 'ashamed' by the level of refereeing in the Premier League.
Arsenal were so annoyed by the decision making of referee Stuart Attwell and VAR official Andy Madley that they put an official statement out on Sunday, which has since been labelled as 'embarrassing' by Martin Cassidy, chief executive of Ref Support UK.
'[Arsenal] would have more credibility if they addressed and made a public statement about the unacceptable behaviour of their players or manager,' Cassidy said, as per the Telegraph.
'Mikel Arteta's touchline behaviour is the worst in the Premier League and his behaviour is a large part of the problem in football. He has become a Mercedes version of Neil Warnock.
'His behaviour and comments, that now appear to be supported by Arsenal as a club, is very worrying for me and the game in general.
'This statement [by Arsenal], in my opinion, is nothing other than an infantile moan.'
Cassidy went on to bemoan the behaviour of managers like Arteta, Jurgen Klopp and others on the touchline directly correlates to a toxic culture that has crept in at grassroots level.
Ref Support UK receive reports of abusive touchline behaviour at grassroots level on a weekly basis.
They say that much of the abuse, which Cassidy said is both verbal abuse and threats, gets directed at officials under the age of 18.
Cassidy was not alone in being left thoroughly unimpressed by both Arsenal and Arteta.
Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville both vehemently criticised Arsenal's decision to back their manager in wake of the 1-0 defeat to Newcastle.
In a statement on Sunday afternoon, the club said it was backing their manager after 'yet more unacceptable refereeing and VAR errors'. It added fans, players and managers 'deserve better' from the PGMOL.
Carragher and Neville, however, believes Arsenal have unnecessarily poured petrol on an already combustible situation.
Writing on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, Neville said: 'Arsenal and Liverpool's statements are wrong. Do it privately. Managers and players make far more mistakes than refs!'
Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of Liverpool's clash against Luton, Carragher said: 'This is not a moment to jump on the bandwagon with VAR and just batter people at Stockley Park and the officials because that's not right.'
Arsenal's statement is the second time a Premier League feels it has to directly address PGMOL this season.
Last month, Liverpool formally requested the audio between the VAR officials and referee Simon Hooper after their 2-1 defeat to Tottenham on September 30.
The Reds had a Luis Diaz goal ruled out for offside, a decision which PGMOL subsequently admitted was incorrect.
Liverpool also had two players sent off and lost to a last-minute own goal.
Carragher claimed on X that the response from Arsenal was 'way over the top'.
'I didn't agree with what Liverpool put out at the time,' Carragher said on Sky.

Doesn't matter if we have negative shots in the game, you can't justify corruption with stats. And just because you mentioned the stats shows how much you know football. How about city start every game with just 5 players cause if you are good at it you still win, right?

poor officiating from Ref is a disgrace to this league with the standard set. There is high level of corruption in this league. Ref CEO should be ashamed of himself and the corrupt practices of the officials rather than attacking the hurts managers and clubs.

Refereeing in the PL can be very frustrating but some of the teams should not over do it. Klopp asking for a replay was as embarrassing as the VAR that officiated the game. Aterta defended the PGMOL for that embarrassment. Today he is saying he is sick. Last season, Romero pulled Cucu's hair, he fell and couldn't defend a corner. Kane scored, yet Tuchel and Chelsea were punished by the PGMOL. We all saw it. Chelsea didn't react like this so why the embarrassment from the teams
It's actually time for clubs to stand up against this refs so we can import refs

You shut up. I am a GUNNER, but what Arteta said is unprofessional and for Arsenal as an institution to support him is a disgrace. This is a dangerous move very negative and detrimental to the team's success. Instead, Arsenal should address the issue only and ignore Arteta's comment. Then we look inwardly and correct our flows. They may rule out the goal, but still it is a draw which means we aren't the better side. Arsenal is a respectable and fair play team. We shouldn't do what Liverpool did last two weeks...
You shut up am a Chelsea fan, but the officiating in this country is bullshit and you except clubs and coaches and players to accepted it as robot and move on really? With VAR that the painful part, other leagues refs are Gold epl are worst than Nigeria league reff, it's time for clubs and players to stand up against this reff and then we will see howfr, every time stand up, stand for your club fight for then, when epl reff blow nonsense there are supported by EPL and who so ever why should the coach not be supported, am not a gunner but that decision was painful.

What is football without the passion? If every coach is like Wenger and Ferguson, do you know how boring the games will look like?
Ferguson? Lol.

So when your referees mess up and are always backed by the referring bodies what do you expect the clubs to do? Liverpool have complained yet yesterday you saw a blatant penalty and refused to call it only for Luton to score. what exactly do you want clubs to do when you've taken a brilliant technology like VAR that has worked fantastically well in other leagues and at the biggest stage of world football the world cup and turned it to something your crooked officials can always manipulate to suit your agendas. I know that VAR will not be allowed to work in English football because of who high corruption is in it.

What is more shameful is officiating a match of "best league in the world" like INEC of Nigeria and refs body defending the daylight robbery as Supreme court of Nigeria. Tueh!

South Africa took the rugby refs to task before the World Cup and it helped them win it as every side is watching the ref from all angles every time they blow. Remember Rasie was banned from being at a few games but it was worth it for all the teams even though they still get it wrong sometimes.
