Mikel Arteta believes Pep Guardiola is "the best coach in the history of football" and praised his impact on the Premier League.
For the first time since taking over at Arsenal, Arteta will face a City boss other than Guardiola when the two sides meet in the Community Shield on Sunday.
Guardiola left his role as City manager at the end of last season, signing off a trophy-laden tenure with an FA Cup and EFL Cup in his final campaign.
Arteta faced Guardiola 18 times across all competitions, though the former City boss won on 11 occasions (D4 L3), including their final meeting, a 2-1 league win in April.
Nevertheless, the Arsenal manager managed to win his first Premier League title last season, and he did not hold back in his praise for his former colleague.
"I am going to fall short on the way I can praise what he has done," said Arteta.
"For the Premier League, for the country, I think he has opened a different way of understanding the game. He has escalated the Premier League to a different level.
"He has brought a different standard to the league that we have not witnessed before. I was very lucky to be a part of that and understand and witness how it is done daily, I think it is remarkable.
"For me he is the best coach in the history of football. He will be missed in the Premier League but I don't know if coaches will miss him.
"I owe him gratitude for the time I was there, it was incredible and I think he has elevated all the coaches and teams to think and to work in different ways and that has made all of us better so it has been a pleasure.
"Now it is Enzo [Maresca], who I know well and he will provide something different to the club."
Arteta won both of his Community Shield matches as a player (2014, 2015), and has won both so far as a manager (2020, 2023), with both managerial victories coming via a penalty shoot-out.
Arsenal have won all three of their Community Shield matches against City, beating them 4-0 in 1934, 3-0 in 2014 and 4-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in 2023.

You don't know history. Go and check Ferguson spent more than any coach in the EPL. Apart from Beckham, Scholars, Biggs and Garry he bought all great players in Man U with huge money, breaking many transfer records. From Cantona, to Ince, Roy Keane, Schmeichel, Stam, York, Cole, Veron, Ferdinand, Cristiano, Rooney, Vanistleroy, Hergraves, Tebez, Van Persi, etc. stop being deluded, Fergie spent big and only dominated Arsen Wenger with money power, not tactics or playing style. Go and check the record and stop saying rubbish!

You are just hating! Every possible data show that Pep is the GOAT of coaches. In just 17 seasons, he won over 40 trophies across La Liga, Bundles Liga and EPL with double trebles and uncountable records. Not only that, the way he influences and changes the game is the most striking fact. Imagine, had Pep managed Madrid, how dominant will Madrid become? The problem with you Madrid fans is that you think that being the best team, every best player or coach must come from Madrid. That's nonsense and delusional. As a team Madrid is the best, no doubt, but individually, Madrid has never produced the GOAT, be it a player or a coach. From Pele to Maradona to Messi, and from Cruyff to Fergie to Pep none has come from Madrid. Of course, there are great players and coaches from Distefano, to Puskas, to Zidane, to Cristiano. As for coaches, Carlo Ancelotti is the most successful and decorated ever in Madrid history, who, in two spells won 15 titles, just one title above Pep's Barca's 4 season of 14 trophies. While, in Man City, Pep won 20 titles. Even the whole Ancelotti's coaching career of 30 trophies is short of Pep's 41 trophies despite having more years. Also, the debate between Cristiano and Messi is just because they met at the same era and played for rival teams. These two factors aside, there's no basis for comparison individually and collectively. And with time this debate will surely be done and dusted. FACT!!!

tell if it's easy to coach "rich clubs" as you put, , now was Chelsea,PSG, Madrid, Bayern all poor clubs??? because they spent and spent and spent but cannot get a good coach or manager to manage the team. so even with your money you need genius like Pep to manage your team, in the past five years how many coaches did your team sacked and how much did your team Chelsea spent on buying players but no results. Now people like you will end up saying shit about someone like Luis Enrique in PSG for winning all this trophies he's winning forgetting how good of a manager he's just like his fellow Spanish guy Pep.
This is the only problem I have with you people. You just want to impose your own opinions on others. I don’t even need all these nonsense explanations because you’re still repeating what I said. Have you ever saw him coaching Roma or spurs level of clubs????? Abeg go to hell with your Argentina explanations.

👉 You that say Pep isn't the best are either ignorant, bitter or biased. First, because Arteta knows football more than you. Second, he isn't the only one saying so, so do many other coaches and football experts that say Pep is the greatest. Third, the number of coaches and football experts that see Pep as the greatest is higher than you all combined with all the rest that say he isn't! As for your biased and narrow minded criteria, saying he hasn't done this, he hasn't done that, you can keep singing them whenever you like, it doesn't matter. Pep has been very successful and has influenced the game in a way only the ignorant, bitter and biased can deny.

Not a fan of him but to me he is the best , the statement that says he only coached rich clubs only to me is wrong . are we saying Maresca is going to do what Guadiola was doing at City . What happened to Barcelona after he left

broh Luis spend when he was at Barcelona to see stay guided in order a coach to build a team he need to spend it's rather spend and we see the results rather than spending without results stay guided
He only bought Neymar Jr and maybe Mascerano if I'm not mistaken. But you could see there was a genius manager. Go back to Peps incomings in his 1st season. He bought a lot of players and the next season he sold them

Why Ferguson. What did he do for United that Guadiola didn’t do for man city Apart from longevity in man UTD couple with the primitive football and raw talent back then. I can say Ferguson was just lucky enough to have been in United . In as much as I respect his achievements with man UTD. I will stand with pep because I witness first hand what he did for man city in just 10 years as compared to Ferguson era with plenty of years with little or nothing to show. In this modern football if Ferguson steps in the dugout, he will be very much relegated far behind. Pep I second to non in his era and his achievements and trophies speaks volumes for it self. Best win rate . Highest point(100) tally in a single season, highest goal difference(102) in a single season, highest point gap to second position (19), four EPL in a row and Without Liverpool it would have been 8 in a row. His worst league perform ance at top level is 3rd position. He has done it in all the leagues he coached , la liga, bundesliga, EPL. A very rich cv with plenty of achievements. Quote me anywhere and I stand to be corrected. Mr Pep Joseph Guadiola is and will always remain the best in club football…🫡🫡🫡

Any time I hear his name,I became emotional, Indeed he is the best in the history of football,A coach who coaches a coach and allow him to compete with him,No other coach have ever dared done that!!!

if is by that then chelsea and Manchester united should be bagging trophies every year because they spend money too
yes, he's better than every coach that coached Chelsea recently. Man UTD are being asked big money on average players. and they only buy one quality player at a time and mix with some averages. I can't say their coaches have been bad
