Mikel Arteta has ruled out a January exit for Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus after he made his return from injury.
Jesus suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in January during Arsenal’s FA Cup tie with Manchester United, but made his return in the Gunners’ Champions League win over Club Brugge on Wednesday.
The Brazilian made a strong impression on his return, creating one chance for his team-mates before firing off three shots, one of which crashed against the crossbar.
Arsenal face Wolves in their Premier League match as they look to bounce back from their defeat to Aston Villa last time out in the competition.
Although Jesus is unlikely to start against the league’s bottom side, Arteta believes the 28-year-old must push for a spot in the first 11.
“No, I don't consider that and especially with the situation we have right now,” said Arteta when asked if he would consider selling Jesus in January.
“I think Gabby has a lot to offer to the team and he is proving that straight away in the first minutes that he was available to play.
“He has put so much [in] to be in this position again and now the focus is to be with us.
"A player of his quality, a player who has given us so much and when he comes with the energy he did the other day, he is certainly a player who has to be pushing and aiming [to start], that's for sure."
Arsenal have won their last eight Premier League games against Wolves, their longest winning run against an opponent since a run of 10 against Burnley from 2010 to 2019.
This will be the 42nd Premier League match between the top side and the bottom side, with the league leaders winning 30 of the previous 41 (D7 L4).
Wolves are responsible for two of the bottom side’s four victories, beating Manchester United at Molineux in both January 2004 and February 2011.
Arteta is wary of the threat Wolves could pose, encouraging his players to avoid complacency at the Emirates Stadium.
“By understanding that a team in that position has to react and show their teeth,” added Arteta when asked how to be on guard against their upcoming opponents.
“That's a dangerous thing in this league and when every team has the quality they have. So [being complacent] is not going to happen.”

If you offered me one big Gabi Jesus moment before the end of the season- a huge goal in the title race, or a winning goal in a final or a Champions League knockout game- I would shake hands on it right now. This is not a player for the future, it is very unlikely that he signs another Arsenal contract, any contribution Arsenal yield from him before May ought to be treated with relish.

Berta has stated that he is looking for an upgrade for L/W, he says Martinelli has done well in europe but has not looked good in the league. And Trossaud is not a winger and also his age comes into the equation. He appears to be looking at Rodrygo and Leao as his primary targets. Madueke can play as competition and rotation for both flanks. We are too reliant on our right side attacking in games.
