MIKEL ARTETA is in line for a huge pay rise with Arsenal looking to offer him a bumper new contract.

The Gunners boss has just one year left on his current deal and Emirates chiefs are desperate to tie him down long term.

But it will take the club's biggest-ever managerial contract to do it.

Pep Guardiola is the Premier League top-earning boss on a huge £20million a season at Manchester City.

And, after Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool exit, there is a massive gap to the rest.

However, according to the Daily Mail, Arsenal are ready to bump Arteta’s salary closer to that of the City boss.

While they don't put an exact figure on it, it is understood a deal could DOUBLE the £9.5m-a-season wage the Spaniard is already on.

That would see the Arsenal boss shoot miles clear of the likes of Erik ten Hag and Unai Emery.

Ten Hag is on similar to Arteta's current salary at United, while Emery now earns £8m after penning a new five-year Aston Villa deal.

New Liverpool boss Arne Slot is way behind, on £6.85m a year.

Arteta has led the North Londoners to two consecutive second-place finishes, losing out only to Guardiola's City.

And Arsenal deem their former captain as the man to take the club forward over long period like Gunners great Arsene Wenger.

Arteta won the FA Cup in 2019 and after picking up the Globe Soccer Awards' nod for best Premier League coach, he insisted more is to come.

He said: “We built for a few years. Right now, we have a team that is full of enthusiasm and so hungry to win trophies.

"We know the competition - but we believe we can do it, so we are going to give it a real go.

“I feel extremely proud, because when I decided to stop my career as a football player, I thought that all the joy and the best moments of football were gone.

“And I was totally wrong, because when I started my coaching and managerial career, I am loving it even more.

“I feel so passionate about it and I have to thank all the players, the coaching staff and everybody involved at the football club to make my days so enjoyable, so inspiring and for supporting me in this journey that we started four years ago, that is hopefully going to take us right to the top to win many trophies."
