Celtic winger Daniel Arzani admits his season is over after confirming he will need surgery on his damaged knee ligament.
The 19-year-old Australia winger was making his first appearance in a Hoops jersey since signing a two-year loan deal from Manchester City when his knee buckled on Dundee's Dens Park turf last Wednesday.
He left the field on a stretcher and scans have now shown he requires an operation to rebuild a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.
Arzani confirmed the news in a tweet, posting: 'Thank you to everyone who has taken the time out of their day to show support and love.
'Unfortunately I will need an ACL Op, ruling me out till next season!
'This is a tough time for me but also a chance to improve and come out of this better than ever! Love you all!'
The injury blow caps off a frustrating start to life in Glasgow for the highly-rated teenager. He joined late in August but was only handed his Celts debut with his side 5-0 up in last week's Dens thrashing of Jim McIntyre's basement boys.
Parkhead boss Brendan Rodgers was also hit with the news that midfielder Eboue Kouassi is out for the rest of the season with a similar injury to Arzani.
He said last week: 'It's hugely disappointing for both boys because they have been on the sidelines working their way through and in the last week they have been given opportunities, and both (injuries) are innocuous really.
'Daniel's was a twist where his studs stayed in the grass and twisted his knee.'

Hopefully it isn't serious. He's only young so he should recover quick.

Go overseas, get benched, get injured, get benched again, come back to australia is the classic socceroo story we keep seeing. Bonus points if you’re benched by worse players.

Hoping it's nothing serious and he'll be back soon enough.

If it is the worst news I hope he can come back to City and play a full season of A-League to get some games under his belt, then he can go back to Europe age 21.

I wish he had been loaned back to melb city, he would be playing week in week out leading into the Asia cup and a good performance there would of allowed city group to sell him on.

It's tough. Feel for him. However not the end of the world, he can come back and be amazing again.

It's the same story every time. Young Aussie player shines and shows bags of potential. Either moves abroad too soon or to the wrong club and his career stalls or he makes all the right moves and suffers a serious injury which ruins his development. Worst thing is Arzani is legitimately talented and promising on a world football scale.

Didn't Arzani literally make his first appearance the other day? That's pretty rough for the young lad, and Kouassi too of course.

This is like Ben Simmons all over again. But if he's anything like Ben Simmons, he shall come back and dominate once he recovers.
