Aston Villa's U-18s have won the FA Youth Cup after beating Liverpool's starlets at Villa Park in front of a crowd of over 4,000.
Free-scoring Villa, coached by Sean Verity, made their first appearance in the final of the showpiece since 2010 but were fearless from the off in their quest for success.
Ben Chrisene slotted home a wonderful opener early on to set the tone in the Midlands, and Villa continued to carve out openings in the hunt for a second.
That arrived just a matter of minutes later. Billy Koumetio gave away a penalty, and Brad Young was able to dust himself down and coolly convert from 12 yards.
Liverpool pulled a goal back in the second half, Melkamu Frauendorf's volley finding the net after a deflection, but the Reds were unable to complete the comeback.
This trophy is a proven springboard for budding young talents to prove themselves in the spotlight - and several players on both teams looked ready for the first-team.
In fact, five of the Villa starting XI, including the brilliant Louie Barry and Chrisene, started against Liverpool in the senior FA Cup in January.
Three more of their stars came on as a substitute on that occasion, pointing towards a very promising future indeed for Villa.
More to follow.
