Match Events
8' CHANCE! Grealish's shot over the bar
Roos’ poor clearance drops right to McGinn who sharply lays the ball off to his left for Grealish. The midfielder cuts inside before drilling a right-footed effort just wide of the goal from the edge of the box.
33' Not far away! Abraham's shot over the bar
Abraham picks the ball up on the edge of the box before looking to bend his right-footed effort inside the far post with Keogh backing off. The Englishman’s effort is close, but just curls wide to the left of Roos’ goal.
44' GOAL! Derby County 0-1 Aston Villa (El Ghazi)
El Ghazi gives Villa the lead! Hourihane slides a wonderful ball down the right for Adomah who quickly lays it off to his left for Elmohamady. The defender whips a wonderful ball into the box which El Ghazi nods into the bottom left corner of the net after getting ahead of Bogle at the far post.
59' GOAL! Derby County 0-2 Aston Villa (McGinn)
McGinn doubles Villa’s lead! El Ghazi cuts inside of Bogle before seeing his shot deflected high into the air and towards the centre of the box. Roos comes out to claim the looping ball but gets it all wrong as McGinn nips in to nod it into the open goal.
71' CHANCE! Bogle's shot wide out
Mount slides the ball in down the right wing for Bogle who skips inside of El Ghazi before striking across the ball in looking to fire it in at the near post from an acute angle, but the effort just fizzes wide.
81' GOAL! Derby County 1-2 Aston Villa (Waghorn)
Derby have pulled one back! Mings got back to make an exceptional last-ditch tackle on Waghorn but the ball fell to Jozefzoon down the left. The winger swings a cross into the box and Bogle cushions it down beautifully for Marriott whose strike deflects off Waghorn and into the bottom left corner of the net from the centre of the box.
Match Report
Aston Villa have been promoted to the Premier League after beating Derby 2-1 in the Championship play-off final on Monday.
Villa got the better if Frank Lampard's side at Wembley as Anwar El Ghazi opened the scoring in the first half and John McGinn headed into an open goal on the hour mark after an error from goalkeeper Kelle Roos.
Although Jack Marriott pulled one back for the Rams in the 81st minute to set up a tense finish to the game, Dean Smith's team held on despite seven minutes of added time to book their return to the English top-flight after three years in the Championship.

To be fair, even if Derby tried the game was hugely 1 sided for the most part. 4 Chelsea legends there at the same time Lamps, Terry, Didier and Cole all in 1 stadium. Tammy despite not scoring was essential in the game and contributed a lot. Mount was surprisingly quiet and unlike his usual self, sat back a bit. Overall great game to watch but imo pretty 1 sided and expected seeing as Villa are the better side.... sad for Lampard though, he deserved a chance to manage in the prem.

Since Tammy is coming back to Chelsea pretty much, I wonder how Villa will hold their own. I feel like theyll go back down next season since Kodjia isnt anywhere near as good as Abraham. Idk how their hierarchy is and whether theyd invest in players for the prem....
