All eyes were on Antoine Griezmann and Diego Costa as Atletico Madrid hosted Real Sociedad on Saturday night, with the crowd at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano keen for the two forwards to rediscover their scoring touch, but in the end the goals came from the back.
Diego Godin and Filipe Luis got the two goals in the 2-0 victory, while the Brazilian had also scored Los Rojiblancos' previous goal, in the 1-1 draw at Villarreal.
For Godin, it was unusual that he scored with his feet, as his past 17 had come using his head.
He'd scored eight with his head in 2013/14, four in 2014/15, one in 2015/16, three in 2016/17 and one in 2017/18.
Filipe Luis had scored with his boots much more recently, just last weekend.
This time he unleashed a rocket past former teammate Miguel Angel Moya, meaning four of his 15 LaLiga Santander goals have come against Real Sociedad.
It's clear that he has a special touch against the Basques, and it's clear that Atleti's defenders can still put the ball in the back of the net.

Filipe Luis wasn't really given any chances by Mourinho for some reason. I have no idea why. In my opinion he's been one of the best left backs in the world the last five years (maybe top two with Marcelo), and he's been absolutely crucial to our success.

Atlético, the club where strikers become defenders and where defenders become strikers.

What's the problem this season? Seems like you stockpiled talent, but nothing is clicking upfront New signings need time to adjust and our usual players like Costa and Griezmann are still tired from the World Cup. Add to that we always start the season slowly.

What's with the Brazilian left backs at Madrid and golazos. I swear Marcelo scored a goal similar to this some time back.

Fun fact, due to being so effective off the bench (scoring 5 goals as a sub in 15/16) he acquired the nickname is the Argentinian Microwave, seeing as he could light up a game in less than 2 minutes.

Of course it's easy to praise Suárez, but the best example of garra charrua is Diego Godín.

Atletico have so many attacking players now and Godin has to score to put them upfront, Simeone needs to have a better system for these wingers and forwards to express themselves

This game is dedicated to those who the other day athletes antifouboleros athletes said that the athleti lost because he played as many of us asked him to play. It turns out that playing like that also wins

Griezmann and Costa also have important actions in defense ... In this team they attack and defend the 11.
