U.S. international Auston Trusty has signed for Sheffield United in a permanent deal worth £5million ($6.4M) from Arsenal, just 10 days before the start of the season.

The 24-year-old centre-back joins the Premier League's new boys after impressing on loan at Birmingham City last season, for who he went on to play for 44 times in the Championship before winning the Blues' player of the season award.

Trusty was part of Arsenal's pre-season squad traveling to the U.S. this summer and featured for the Gunners against Nuremberg and the MLS All-Stars.

He initially moved to North London from the Colorado Rapids in January 2022. The Rapids are another club belonging to Stan Kroenke, the owner of Arsenal.

Trusty has played twice for the USMNT. The first time was in March of this year in a CONCACAF Nations League match against Grenada, despite being called up in 2018 and 2022.

If he had stayed at Arsenal this season, then Trusty would have found himself behind Gabriel Magalhaes and Jakub Kiwior in the pecking order of centre-backs.

A Pennsylvania native, Trusty came through the ranks of the Philadelphia Union's youth setup before making his professional debut in the MLS in 2018.

He was part of Philly's U.S. Open Cup run to the final that same year, before being traded to the Rapids in exchange for up to $750,000 in allocation money in 2019.

The American remained with Colorado on loan after signing with Arsenal in January 2022.

He never managed to represent the Gunners in a competitive match since his arrival in January 2022.

Trust was initially signed for a fee of £1.5million ($1.92M).

The centre-back will now get a chance to establish himself in England's top flight with Sheffield United.
