Avram Glazer breaks silence on decision to put Manchester United up for sale

Manchester United co-owner Avram Glazer has spoken about the club for the first time since it was put up for sale.

United announced on Tuesday night they were 'exploring strategic opportunities' for the club, which could include selling it. The Glazers are majority shareholders at Old Trafford and supporters have protested against their ownership for years.

The statement from the club also said: "Manchester United does not intend to make further announcements regarding the review unless and until the board has approved a specific transaction or other course of action requiring a formal announcement."

Avram Glazer was tracked down by Sky News in Florida on Wednesday night and he spoke in public for the first time since the announcement, with the 62-year-old commenting on the sale of the club.

Close to his home in West Palm Beach, Glazer said: "As we announced yesterday, the board went through a process and it's decided it's going to look at different strategic alternatives and that's what we're doing."

When asked why the club hadn't been sold earlier, he reiterated the American family was now considering its options.

Glazer added: "Well, once again, we've gone through a process, we're going to look at all different strategic alternatives and we'll see where that leads us, so I appreciate you talking to me tonight and I want to wish everyone a happy thanksgiving."
