A true club servant

It is hard to think of more loyal players in recent history than Cesar Azpilicueta.

Signed in 2012 from Ligue 1 outfit Marseilles, the initial 8 million pounds that the west London side paid for the Spaniard has since been repaid in kind many times over, with “Dave” having gone on to rack up 434 appearances for the Blues.

Better still, the defender has won every almost every single major trophy available to the club, and will have achieved this feat should Chelse triumph in the club world cup later in the year.

Azpi discusses his future

However, despite his success, Azpilicueta’s contract is due to run out in June of 2022, meaning that the 32 year old could be forced to walk away from the blues should a new contract offer not be forthcoming.

Speaking about this possibility before Chelsea’s Champions League game against Zenit St Petersburg, however, the club captain appeared laid back and relaxed about his situation, saying:

“I don’t have any concerns and I feel fully trusted by the club.

It is true my contract ends in June but I just focus on what’s next. I love to be here and I feel loved. I aim to be here as long as I can.”

With Thiago Silva, Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger also all out of contract next summer, Chelsea will need to sit down with all four of their key defenders in the coming months to iron out this issue.
