Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu is reportedly set to leave the club after reaching a mutual agreement to terminate his contract, according to journalist Sami Mokbel.

The Japan international, 26, is continuing his recovery from knee surgery and is expected to be sidelined for another five months. Tomiyasu played just six minutes of football last season after suffering a serious knee injury that required surgery in February, following a previous knee issue in 2023.

His current deal at the Emirates Stadium was due to run until the end of next season, but Arsenal and the player have reportedly settled on an early termination of the contract.

Tomiyasu joined Arsenal from Bologna in 2021 and made 79 appearances for the Gunners. Despite his promising start in north London, persistent injury problems have limited his impact over the past two seasons.

Arsenal are now exploring defensive reinforcements ahead of the new campaign. Valencia centre-back Cristhian Mosquera is among the names linked, while Kieran Tierney has already completed a move back to Celtic. There are also doubts over Oleksandr Zinchenko’s future with the club before the summer transfer window closes on September 1.

Tomiyasu’s next destination remains uncertain as he focuses on returning to full fitness.
