Liverpool defender Joel Matip was included in BBC pundit Garth Crooks' Premier League team of the week but fans were quick to point out an error in his reasoning.
The former Tottenham and Stoke forward alluded to the fact that Matip played against Tottenham last Wednesday, writing: 'He survived one or two scary moments.'
The Reds centre half did not feature against Jose Mourinho's side last week, he was not named in the squad, with Rhys Williams making his Premier League debut alongside Fabinho in the backline.
Fans were left somewhat baffled by Crooks' explanation, which has since been amended.
One said on Twitter: 'Damn... I thought I'd lost my mind for bit there. Was scratching my head trying to remember what he did vs Spurs.'
While others ridiculed Crooks for his error in his weekly column. One said on Twitter: 'You think you’ve seen it all in 2020 but then Garth Crooks describes the scary moments Joel Matip had during a game he didn’t play in. No context, indeed.'
Another added: 'Embarrassing,' while another Tweet read: 'Loooool, he was probably watching our game with spurs from last year' following by a laughing crying face emoji.
One fan compared Crooks' blunder to Liverpool right back Trent Alexander-Arnold nutmegging Son Heung-min during the clash at Anfield.
Liverpool secured a 2-1 victory over Spurs in what was a top-of-the-table clash at the time with Roberto Firmino scoring a last-minute header to seal all three points.
Matip returned for the trip to Crystal Palace on Saturday and played the full 90 minutes as Liverpool secured an emphatic 7-0 victory. As well as playing a key part in keeping the Eagles out the centre half provided the assist for Mohamed Salah's first goal in the second half.
It is not the first time Crooks has been guilty of a gaffe. Back in 2012 he suggested that West Brom's James Morrison might enter England manager Roy Hodgson's plans. But Morrison had actually been playing for Scotland for four years.

People are making such a big deal out of it. Fair enough, he deserves criticism but let's stop pretending as though everyone is perfect here. He made a mistake, he realises it. Move on.

They are not experts, they just give opinions. If you begin to bet by following pundits advices, you quickly learn how often they are wrong.

I make mistakes because I’m HUMAN. Surprisingly, I see so many commenters with perfect humanity. Meaning; we are having many Gods instead one God. Hmmmmm

People think that it is easy to speak or write about european football events with so many games, fixtures, names and incidents to remember.... It is not.
so he's paid thousands of euros to make such stupid mistakes, he damn shaded a player who didn't play and you're trying to defend him? Even as a spurs supporter for the game, this is a bloody disgrace and deserves no sympathy.

No need to say anything here tbh but we all know since José came, everyone in Spurs are trash talking like they've won something (TITLES by the way)
