Barcelona have released the first look at their explosive new Amazon Prime docu-series 'A New Era', allowing fans a peak behind the curtain into all the drama that has swamped the club over the last two years.
Following the recent successes of Manchester City, Tottenham and Arsenal's All or Nothing series, it's Barcelona, who have given the Prime cameras access to all the goings on at the club in what has been a chaotic 24 months for the Catalan giants, next.
The five-episode documentary, which will be released on Prime Video on December 28, covers everything from Lionel Messi's motivational talks in the dressing room – and tearful exit to PSG – to the restructuring of the club from the board down to the players and managers.
Barcelona and Amazon Prime released a one-minute trailer to the masses on Monday, showing the club in turmoil from the get-go following one of their most painful defeats in recent memories – a 8-2 defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals back in August 2020.
The first episode shows Xavi taking the reins at the Nou Camp and preparing his squad for two pivotal games in his tenure so far – the 100th El Clasico in the Spanish Super Cup final in January and their meeting two months later in March in LaLiga.
Before the Super Cup clash in Saudi Arabia, the Barcelona players can be seen talking about comments made by Toni Kroos before the match, saying he didn't view the crisis-hit Catalan rivals as a 'threat' and that it would be a 'miracle' if Xavi's side won.
While Barcelona would go on to lose the match in extra-time 3-2, Barcelona would get their revenge, thrashing Los Blancos on their own turf 4-0 two months after.
The episode also gives fans a look into Xavi's preparations before games and how he looks to inspire his squad as they continue to turn their fortunes around after a difficult pandemic.
But the following episode promises not to be easy viewing for Barcelona fans to say the least, with Messi's highly-emotional exit next to be covered as well as their mammoth 8-2 mauling at the hands of Bayern Munich.
Ronald Koeman's sacking – and Xavi's eventual hiring – are also captured by the cameras, which signals an upturn in the club's fortunes on the pitch.
The financial issues off the pitch are addressed, too, with disgraced former club president Josep Bartomeu also following Koeman out the Nou Camp exit having left the club in turmoil and £1billion's worth of debt.
With Joan Laporta's presidential election taking place in March 2021, Barcelona fans are given the chance to also see the extraordinary conversations with board members and manager Xavi over who they wanted to recruit despite their economical struggles.
In one scene, Laporta and Xavi discuss potential signings, with the Barcelona manager left blown away about the six potential signings they are about to make.
However, in another scene, Xavi insists they are 'better than Real Madrid' – months before they would fall short in the LaLiga title race to their great rivals.
The series finishes just before the start of the 2022-23 campaign but details the chaotic summer transfer window that saw the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Jules Kounde arrive through the Nou Camp doors despite their huge amounts of debt.
Further contributions and interviews including board members, the coaching staff and current rising stars – including Gavi, Pedri and Ansu Fati – will all feature in the series.
Barcelona: A New Era will premiere on December 28, with all five episodes available.

Koeman was brave to manage Barca in the deepest crisis, he did very well, still you can replace him for Xavi, but you can’t blame him for the crisis he completely inherited
