Manchester United risk losing another of their young stars this summer with Angel Gomes open to a move away from Old Trafford.

In October, Sportsmail revealed winger Tahith Chong — United's young player of the year in 2018 — could leave as his contract is due to run out in the summer.

And Gomes, the youngest recipient of the prestigious award in 2017, is in the same situation after failing to agree terms over a new deal.

The 19-year-old midfielder is said to be unsettled and cast further doubt over his future at United recently by deleting any mention of the club from his Instagram account.

Both players can open talks with foreign clubs from next week over a free transfer in the summer.

Gomes is believed to be attracting interest from Barcelona while Chong, 20, has been watched by Juventus — the same club that snapped up Paul Pogba on a free in 2012.

United find themselves in an awkward position after placing so much emphasis on youth under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The club still hope Gomes and Chong can be persuaded to stay and sign new contracts, but there is growing concern as they head into the New Year still waiting for a breakthrough in negotiations.

Gomes and Chong featured on United's summer tour but have failed to make the same progress this season as Mason Greenwood and Brandon Williams, who have both signed new contracts since promotion to the first-team squad.

Gomes became United's youngest player since Duncan Edwards in the 1950s when he featured against Crystal Palace in May 2017 at the age of 16 years and 263 days, but he has only managed a further seven appearances for the club.
