Barcelona 'would prefer to sign Hakim Ziyech over Timo Werner' from Chelsea in January

Barcelona and Chelsea remain in talks over the prospect of at least one of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner heading to the Nou Camp in Janaury.

That's according to Spanish publication SPORT on Wednesday, who claim Barcelona are particularly keen on bolstering their attacking options in the next transfer window.

It adds that while both players would be open to a move to the Spanish side, Barca would prefer to bring in Ziyech in January.

The Morocco international has struggled to hold down a regular starting spot under Thomas Tuchel. The 28-year-old has played 13 times this season, scoring twice.

Ziyech arrived at Chelsea in 2020 in a £33m deal with Dutch side Ajax, when Frank Lampard was in charge at Stamford Bridge.

Werner, meanwhile, has struggled to settle at Stamford Bridge since arriving in the summer of 2020.

He has failed to recapture the scoring form shown at RB Leipzig that persuaded Chelsea to pay his £45m release clause. He has four goals in 12 matches so far in 2021-22.

Xavi has recently taken over as Barcelona manager and is keen to reinforce his front line. Another player to have been linked with a Nou Camp move is Raheem Sterling of Manchester City.

Both Werner and Ziyech started for Chelsea in Sunday's 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.

They may well have another opportunity to impress on Wednesday, when Chelsea play against Watford at Vicarage Road in the Premier League.

Chelsea are currently first in the Premier League standings, ahead of nearest contenders Manchester City by a point.
