Barcelona's new signing Murillo has more technique than his compatriot

With centre-back Jeison Murillo being brought in by Barcelona just months after the club selling Yerry Mina to Everton, MARCA experts from Colombia weighed in on who is the better of their compatriots.

Mina did wonders for his reputation with a great World Cup in Russia this past summer while Murillo was one of the noticeable absences from the tournament, but their careers have gone in opposite directions since then.

Barcelona were willing to let Mina join Everton in the summer but, due to defensive injuries, they have been forced to delve into the market and have opted for Murillo in an initial six-month loan deal from Valencia.

The latter will bring more joy the Catalan side than his compatriot according to Jaime Dinas and Jonathan Sachin of MARCA Claro Colombia, especially due to his style of play.

Firstly, Murillo has more technical quality than Mina who excels in more physical and aerial play.

"In this aspect, Murillo is a thousand times better than Mina, we all know it," said Sachin.

His colleague then continued to explain that, while both players are "extraordinary" on the pitch, there is still a clear difference.

"He (Murillo) is more technical and faster", said Dinas. "His style is more like Barcelona's than Mina's is."

It was Ernesto Vlaverde's decision to bring in a player who could quickly adapt to the team and Murillo has extensive experience in Europe.

Mina on the other hand, was a player more of an economic invest recalls Sachin: "He came for economic reasons and Barcelona did well. He was sold for 30 million (euros)."

This time, Barcelona wanted both an economic and immediate performance incorporation fit Murillo well thanks to his time in LaLiga while Mina's career stayed in Colombia and Brazil.

"He left Colombia at 18 years old for European football," says Dinas. "He is mentally strong and his family environment is propitious."

So far in the Premier League, Mina has participated in eight matches after overcoming an injury while Murillo has only played 180 minutes this season for Valencia.

The new signing will be given more opportunities to demonstrate his quality on the pitch come 2019.
