Former Liverpool player John Barnes has laid into Paris Saint-Germain starlet Kylian Mbappe after his error led to Roberto Firmino's decisive goal at Anfield on Tuesday night.
Just moments after scoring an equaliser in front of the Kop, Mbappe lost possession on the edge of the box before Firmino slammed in a stoppage time winner in a thrilling Champions League clash.
It came after Daniel Sturridge and James Milner had put the Reds firmly in charge before Thomas Meunier pulled one back for the visitors just before the break.
Barnes, who made 314 appearances in 10 years at Anfield, slammed the youngster's decision making in such a crucial moment and hit out at his and Neymar's lack of effort.
He said on beIN SPORTS: ‘Mbappe is trying to nutmeg someone on the edge of the box, unbelievable. He gives the ball away and Liverpool score.
‘But to be honest I think that could be one thing that lets PSG down because you can see Neymar and Mbappe at times alone to themselves in terms of effort and work rate.'
Fellow pundit Ruud Gullit, a double European Cup winner with AC Milan during his playing career, also couldn't believe Mbappe's thinking and slammed his strike partner Edinson Cavani.
The Dutchman added: ‘If you are a coach then you would be going crazy. In a game like this, I hope he will tell him.
‘What do you think of Cavani? Did you even hear his name mentioned in the second half?’

I don't see PSG winning a CL even in 4 years, dominating a league like the french doesn't push you to the next level. RM for example always had to compete with teams like Atleti or Barca, pretty much refining themselves while clashing against teams that reach semifinals pretty much every tournament. Then why dont English teams do better? They have like 4-5 competitors for a title each season and mid table teams are stronger than in other leagues. usually isn't it luck? last season Man City and liverpool had to face each other, and they were arguably the best 2 teams in their league at the time. Then Spurs almost took down Juve, had they faced another team they probably would have gone through and well United, yea United is not that good. if we go back another CL, we see that England only had 3 teams, Arsenal, City and Leicester, all 3 qualified for round of 8 and Arsenal got bayern so that's just awful luck. City I don't even know how they didn't make it, 5 goals on the first leg but lost cause they conceded 3 goals on each leg(like seriously, was mbappe that good?), and leicester becomes the only team to pass to quarters, however they get atleti and lose. Unfortunate. Honest question here and no offense intended. Apzrt for Napoli, which team are pushing Juventus nowadays ? chievo apparently, actually our last 3 wins were only by 1 goal. Jokes aside, I was not exactly implying Juve has been pushed by other Serie A teams to reach the next level yet(albeit it hasn't been easy winning serie A in the last few years), otherwise we would have won the CL ages ago. That being said Juve already has the experience of CL finals, they're doing something right to get there, I see PSG as a team that has yet to get that experience which is needed to win the thing(see Liverpool for example), if say, PSG reaches the final this year and doesn't win it, I'll change my mind and say that they have huge chances of winning it in 4 years (mbappe is not gonna get any slower and your squad will have better cohesion), but unless they get lucky quarters I can't see PSG being more than top 6. Nice analysis. Our players need more cohesion and more cojones !
