Christoph Baumgartner has issued a public apology to Martin Odegaard after the Arsenal captain was forced off injured on international duty.
Norway played host to Austria in a Nations League clash on Monday, with ex-Man United midfielder Marcel Sabitzer drawing level after Felix Horn Myhre gave the hosts the lead.
With the score still level in the second half Baumgartner launched into a mistimed challenge on Odegaard that led to him requiring treatment on the pitch.
The midfielder has to be helped off the pitch following the tackle and was later pictured using crutches leading to concerns about the severity of his injury.
Erling Haaland netted a late winner for Norway at Ullevaal Stadion but concerns immediately turned to Odegaard's condition after the final whistle.
Following the game Baumgartner took to social media to apologise for his part in the incident and to wish the 25-year-old well in his recovery.
'Hi guys! I would like to sincerely apologize to Martin Odegaard,' he wrote on his Instagram story.
'It was never my intention to injure this fantastic player. I wish him all the best and a speedy recovery! Come back stronger'
The injury could see Odegaard unavailable as Mikel Arteta's side travel to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday for the first north London derby of the season.
The news will come as a significant blow to the Spaniard who is already without Declan Rice for the clash after a review from the Premier League's Key Match Incidents upheld his controversial red card against Brighton.
Leandro Trossard could be drafted into midfield to fill the gap, opening up the possibility for Raheem Sterling to make his first appearance in an Arsenal shirt since completing a deadline day loan switch from Chelsea.
Since joining Arsenal permanently in the summer of 2021 Odegaard has missed just six Premier League games for the Gunners.

Since Declan Rice’s red card against Brighton the discussion has been about how we configure the team without him, but the idea that we’ll likely have to go there without him and Odegaard seems pretty cruel. There’s no Fabio Vieira after his loan to Porto was sanctioned, Mikel Merino is injured after his unfortunate collision in training, and options are limited. Step forward Ethan Nwaneri, I guess – when you look at the squad and who could possibly come in and do something similar to what the captain does, he’s the obvious choice. It’s a lot to ask of a 17 year old though, and no doubt the midfield discussion will continue throughout the week For me, the bigger issue is what the hell we need these internationals for just three games into a new season, and why are there still no mechanisms that put some responsibility on national associations for the welfare of players? Clubs pay tens of millions of pounds in transfer fees for footballers, on top of massive wages/bonuses etc, who are then able to be plucked away by set-ups which are, in some cases, little more than amateur. The manager or head coach doesn’t have to worry about whether Martin Odegaard is fit for the derby, or our first Champions League game away at Atlanta, or our trip the following weekend to Man City … once he’s fit again for the next set of internationals. It’s amazing to me that there isn’t a way for clubs to be properly compensated when players get injured on international duty. Why isn’t there a check-list which involves players, clubs and national associations which assesses risk? If a national team chooses to play someone who is carrying a knock, or playing through the pain to an extent, they assume a punitive financial risk if that player gets an injury which keeps them sidelined for their club.
Yeah; i in particular don't see Spurs as a threat for real; The NLD shouldn't be a game to faze Nwaneri, the 17yrs old is the obvious choice after Odda was Asked to mentor him, so let Arteta try the boy with a start, The bigger the Stage, the bigger the fear but the Biggest his confidence will get.

He didn't meant it; it was 50/50 challenge that got the better of Odda; It's just sad😔
