Demarai Gray has banked on the Bundesliga to revitalise his career, with the winger securing a January move to Bayer Leverkusen from Leicester.

Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers has not included the Englishman in his ambitious plans, granting Gray only 18 minutes of Premier League football this season.

With only six months left on his contract Gray has been handed a way out, with Bayer swooping for a deal worth around £3million.

Bayer announced the signing on Sunday, one day before the transfer deadline.

The winger will join up with fellow former Premier League talent Timothy Fosu-Mensah in Germany, after Bayer pulled-off another cut-price deal worth £1.8m for the highly-rated talent.

Gray has been watching Leicester's top-four battle from the sidelines this season but will hope to get involved on the pitch for Leverkusen's own Champions League qualification push.

Peter Bosz's side sit fourth in the congested Bundesliga table, with Eintracht Frankfurt, Borussia Dortmund, Wolfsburg and Borussia Monchengladbach all within a point.

With Bayern Munich dominance it's unlikely he'll lift a league championship though, having won his first during Leicester's unforgettable 2015-16 season.

Gray joined the Foxes from Birmingham City halfway through the campaign and went on to make 12 appearances as Claudio Ranieri's side shocked the world by lifting the Premier League title.

Though Rodgers had no room for Gray in his Leicester strategy, the former Liverpool coach was impressed by the winger.

'Over the course of time, he has not played as many games as he would like. He has all the attributes, technically he's very strong,' the manager said.

'His best role is on the left-hand side but it has coincided with the emergence of Harvey Barnes, who has been outstanding in the time I've been here. So it's been difficult for him to get regular games.

'He's been here a long time and he's at the age now where he will want to be a regular, and know that he's going to play in order to develop.'
