Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller has been handed a two-game ban from UEFA for a horrific high kick and will miss both legs against Liverpool in the Champions League.

Muller was shown a red card in Ajax game for a high kick on Nicolas Tagliafico that left the defender needing staples to the back of his head.

Tagliafico was attempting to control the ball when Muller caught him.

Tagliafico remained on the ground for a number of minutes while he received treatment following the blow.

Staples and stitches were used to stem the bleeding to the back of his head.

The UEFA statement writes:

The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body has decided:

- to fine FC Bayern München €8,000;

- to suspend the FC Bayern München player Thomas Müller for two (2) UEFA competition matches for which he would be otherwise eligible.
