Bayern not giving up on Alphonso Davies: what salary have they offered him?

Bayern’s new sporting director Max Eberl has held talks with the Canadian, who has refused to sign a new deal in Germany.

Max Eberl, Bayern Munich’s recently-appointed director of sport, has made it clear on several occasions since his arrival at the Allianz Arena he will do everything possible to get Real Madrid target Alphonso Davies to sign a new contract with the reigning Bundesliga champions.

At his unveiling two weeks ago, Eberl stressed that he wouldn’t waste any time in sitting down the Canadian’s agents and, as Sky Germany have revealed, the 50-year-old has had his first attempt at attempting Davies, whose current deal expires in the summer of 2025, to reject Madrid’s advances and commit his future to Bayern.

A new man in charge of the negotiations, but the same result, it seems, with the two parties still a long way off an agreement.

To put it simply, Davies’ wage demands remain far beyond what Bayern are willing to pay him. Again according to Sky Germany, the six-time European champions have offered him between €11 million ($12.03 million) and €13 million ($14.22 million) per season before tax until 2029, which the player isn’t willing to accept.

As has been previously reported, the former Vancouver Whitecaps full-back is demanding €20 million ($21.88 million) per year, including bonuses, a figure Bayern aren’t willing to stretch to under any circumstances, for fear it would completely destroy the whole squad’s wage structure.

Bayern fear repeat of Alaba’s Madrid move

The Bundesliga are clear that if Davies doesn’t sign a contract extension in the next few weeks, they will sell him this summer to avoid a repeat of what happened with David Alaba, who joined Real Madrid on a free transfer in 2021.

“There’s always hope, I’m not going to lose that,” Eberl said recently. However, Bayern are already working to line up a replacement in case Davies stands firm and ends up heading to the Santiago Bernabéu.

Raphaël Guerreiro, who has started at left-back ahead of the Canadian in recent matches, is the natural substitute already within the squad, although the Bavarians are also attempting to convince AC Milan’s  Theo Hernández to leave Italy and become Davies’ long-term replacement.
